99 Points - James Suckling.com “Deeply scented and perfumed, with layered aromas of wild red berries, blueberries, blackberries, bitter chocolate, coffee, black cherries, graphite and licorice. The palate is textural and silken, in near perfect harmony with fine tannins and a rounded mouthfeel cut through by a fine line of acidity. The complexity and integration have built this wine to last for decades, while already offering immediate drinking pleasure from the cool vintage. Excellent. Drink or hold.”

98 Points - Erin Larkin "The 2023 The Schubert Theorem Shiraz is a gorgeous wine. It is silky, inky, pure, black as the ace of spades and long through the finish. The use of concrete egg in the fermentation/maturation stages lends the wine a sense of purity and finesse. It supports a core of crystalline fruit that is wrapped in earthy, grainy tannin and woven together with threads of saline acidity. It has rose petals, detail and delicacy, power and precision. Standish performs somewhat like a Burgundian producer—he works with one grape (I suppose two, if you count the small inclusion of Viognier in the Relic) to express different vineyard sites, soil types and elevations. There's no "declassified" fruit in these wines, no flow-on opportunities to other cuvées, just "make or break" viticulture and winemaking. The ancient terroir of the Barossa is writ large in these wines. It is striking. This 2023 Schubert, despite the cool and wet conditions, is a testament to Standish's clarity of vision. 14.9% alcohol, sealed under natural cork."

98 Points - Halliday.com "The '23 release of the Schubert Theorem is just gorgeous. It's kinetic. The purest of plum, black cherry and blueberry fruits stretch impossibly long on the palate, with impressive density and a real sense of grace to its travel. The edges are smooth and round here and there is a calmness as it glides across the palate, the tannins more in the powdery spectrum (and I'm sure this comes from the portion that spends its gestation in a concrete Nomblot egg). Bunch (50% or thereabouts) is bang on here, lending a golden ratio of spice, sinew and texture. But man, that pure rolling swell of fruit is the star; this is a wonderfully composed wine."

Stuart McCloskey, tasted April 2025 "I am not sure what sense I would miss the most - the ability to smell or taste? Save to say, this is another magical bouquet that rivets you to the spot. Certainly, a little deeper and more brooding than the ’23 Lamella. Each vintage of Schubert Theorem provides the unmissable marine influence – salt, iodine and nori coalesce beautifully with graphite / lead pencil, crème de mûre, mulberry compote, bay leaf, violet, iris, and dark pastille fruits and finishes with mineralité and a vein of blood orange. Fascinating, engaging, wonderfully grown-up, reserved (deliberately so) and sits on the savoury side. Just perfect for me… At first glance – the palate delivers similar qualities to that of the bouquet (wrapped-up in ribbons of silky tannins). She’s mellifluous and caresses like an angel. Tannins and acidity provide sculpted, structure. There is no other wine like Schubert Theorem in Australia. It has all the concentration of a truly great, Aussie wine however, has the poise and grace of a wine from Margaux. Of course, there’s the wine’s exotic personality which resonates proudly. This needs 10-15 years to unlock her true beauty, but she still deserves to be on the world stage. I genuinely find sampling Schubert Theorem an emotional experience. Each year, another extraordinary wine is born. I am humbled and so lucky to sample this ahead of the rest of the world. Decanted for 24-hours (poured back into the bottle – cork left out) Served using Zalto Burgundy glassware. Drink now to 2050…"

Stylistically Dan's wines are as rich and profound as you would expect from Barossa Valley old vines, but they have a satin texture and dreamy perfume that sets them far apart from his contemporaries

Simply put, Dan Standish produces the best Shiraz to come out of the Barossa, hence our excitement to be Dan’s UK importer. A 6th generation Barossan, Dan Standish established his eponymous winery in 1999 whilst still working as winemaker at Torbreck Vintners. His endeavour initially began around an ancient parcel of Shiraz owned and farmed by his father... All batches of fruit are fermented and matured individually then follow a strict selection in the winery that can see as much as 80% of the original blend discarded and sold off in bulk. As with the finest producers in Europe only the finest material is sold under the Standish Wine Company label.

Dan is credited as being one of the most experienced winemakers in Barossa, not only for his incredible work at the great Torbreck winery but also working with his friend Jaysen Collins of JC’s Own, on their joint project Massena. He has also spent time honing his talents working vintages in both the Napa and Sonoma Valleys in California and Rioja in Spain, but his real passion developed through the experience gained whilst working in France’s Rhône Valley. The time in Rhône working with Shiraz, which Dan is almost unrivalled in his expertise with, and the techniques he learned there led to the creation of The Relic in which Dan co-ferments a small quantity of Viognier with Shiraz to create a wine that stands up to the very best in the northern Rhône.

Here, dark fruits are encased in cocoa and earthy richness but with gentle spice, soil tone, asphalt and a stony minerality that gives the wines a beautiful dimension. These are very special Australian wines.

The Standish 2016 wines cemented Dan’s reputation as one of Barossa’s greatest winemakers even further when several of his wines including The Relic and The Standish were awarded a huge 99 points by Robert Parker.com. Dan's reputation as one of the emerging greats of Barossa has recently been recognized when his wines were included on the list of The Barossa Super 100 Classification, the first ever regional classification, highlighting some of Barossa's very best and most sought after wines.
