Everything feels tighter. More focused. More architectural. Where Mappinga offers immediate generosity, Owen's is beautifully restrained, revealing its complexity only gradually as it sits in the glass. The fruit feels more tightly wound, the minerality more pronounced and the structure considerably more serious. This is a Chardonnay built with the long game firmly in mind (unless you enjoy youthful tautness).

Today's aromas of peach, citrus and subtle hazelnut are merely the opening chapter. The remarkable balance between fruit concentration, acidity and fine oak suggests this wine will continue to evolve for at least a decade, and I wouldn't be remotely surprised to see the very best bottles still drinking magnificently well beyond that. For those who enjoy following great Chardonnay as it matures, this is unquestionably the wine to tuck away.”
