Stuart McCloskey, tasted 14 July "A NV sparkling rosé should make you smile from the very first sip. It should be vibrant, refreshing, effortlessly drinkable and impossible to resist. Sidewood has captured that brief beautifully.

Sourced entirely from low-yielding Pinot Noir grown in the cool Adelaide Hills, the fruit was chilled within an hour of harvest before gentle pressing, partial malolactic fermentation and extended time on its lees. Every stage of the winemaking has been designed to preserve purity whilst quietly building texture and complexity beneath the exuberant fruit.

The bouquet is wonderfully bright and inviting, bursting with freshly picked strawberries, ripe raspberries, redcurrants and sweet cherries, lifted by delicate floral notes and a hint of blood orange. As the wine opens, subtle layers of fresh cream, warm brioche and delicate pastry emerge, adding sophistication without ever overshadowing the vibrant fruit.

The palate is beautifully judged. A fine, persistent mousse provides an elegant, creamy texture whilst crystalline acidity keeps everything fresh and energetic. The fruit remains wonderfully precise, flowing effortlessly into gentle citrus, a whisper of savoury spice and a beautifully clean, mineral finish. There is no excess here - just purity, balance and an irresistible sense of drinkability.

This is exactly what modern sparkling rosé should be: bright, confident and impeccably made. It possesses all the freshness and charm you could hope for, yet enough texture and winemaking pedigree to remind you this is much, much better than the price tag."
