1 x Reynella Basket Press Grenache 2020
Stuart McCloskey, March 2025 “Simply gorgeous – what a beautiful Grenache. The perfume is heavenly scented and fills my glass with sweet, floral perfume, raspberry, wild strawberry, spiced biscuit, black cherry, cranberry, briar, white pepper, a satisfying waft of alpine herbs and cold metal / rust. Top drawer on the aromatics. The flavours are long and fresh, the tannins crisp, and the palate feel flows like gossamer sheets of silk. Do you know what? I am going to declare this beauty as one of the prettiest / finest examples of Grenache I have sampled in years. This will also appeal to all fans of Pinot Noir. I am hooked… Gorgeous black cherries, blueberry compote, raspberry, kirsch, and blackcurrant pastilles flow uninterrupted. The acidity and tannins provide perfect balance. This feels wonderfully glossy without being overworked (quite the contrary – purity at its finest). This is so succulent, packed with freshness and is a joyous experience to drink. Blood orange is the last ride, but she goes on for an age. Beautiful, beautiful wine, with all the grace and flavour you could ever wish for. Gobsmacked, if truth be told. Drink now to 2030. Served using Zalto Burgundy stemware as it holds the bouquet perfectly.”
1 x Reynella Basket Press Shiraz 2016
Stuart McCloskey October 2025 “You wouldn’t believe this was almost ten-years of age. Accordingly, this certainly requires a good decant (2-to-4-hours) as this has all the potential to cellar for a further fifteen years. Glorious colour - glossy, midnight black. So, inviting. Post a long decant – There is some serious gravitas to the bouquet. Black fruits wrapped in sweet spice infuse wonderfully with violets, cold steel, graphite, nori, smoked, black tea, cacao, ground coffee, and a little iodine. Leather notes are starting to peek through (as is black olive tapenade). The palate (as I was expecting) is powerful, but the deliverance (flavour, structure and palate-feel) shows real skill, grace, purity and clarity. In truth, I was expecting an old-school behemoth. Lots of Shiraz heft however, this strikes the perfect balance between the classical style with a modern deliverance. Unquestionably, the fruit quality and ten-years in the bottle are key factors. First sip – cooling blue and black fruits wrapped tightly in graphite. This glides and purrs like a pedigree cat. So smooth, succulent and seamless – the flavours and palate feel are long and drawn out. I love the lift of sweet raspberry. The bouquet just gets better. Unmistakable marine lift after an hour in my glass. Stunning.”
1 x Reynella Basket Press Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
Stuart McCloskey March 2025 “The back labels states, ‘this wine is crafted to enjoy now or reward careful cellaring for the next ten years.’ Well, we’re almost at the ten-year mark, and this has at least another decade or two left. For me, this is only starting to be approachable. At the first sniff - you sense the quality, and you sense the luxurious experience that awaits. The bouquet is densely packed and needs time to develop. Ensure you decant for at least one hour, and then the prettiness flows to the tune of sweet, blue and black fruits, violet, pronounced sea salt, clove, dried mint, eucalyptus, dried, Mediterranean herbs, liquorice along with new, saddle leather and nori. There is immediate pleasure both from flavour and palate feel. This is joyous and struts confidently (as it should). The fruit is hand selected (from the best parcels), gently basket pressed and matured in French oak for 14-months. No expense spared which was Accolade’s mantra. The fruit and tannins unfold in powerful layers – generosity is presented along with serious consideration. Blackberry, mulberry, cassis and dark chocolate meld beautifully with the savouriness of bay, black olive, nori, dried herbs, lead pencil, and bags of minerality. This remains powerful however, a decade has tamed the concentration. Epic length that goes on for minutes… Served using Zalto Bordeaux glassware. PS. the bottle weighs a ton!"
