97 Points. Platinum 2025 DWWA. Just £13.95. Quite extraordinary…
There are good-value wines, and then there are wines which make very little sense at all at the price. Piou de Yura Jurançon Sec 2023 was awarded an outstanding 97 Points and Platinum Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2025.
"Decadent aromas of mango, pineapple, orange peel and quince... Ripe and rounded with a mesmerising salve of acidity and a lengthy mouth-watering finish. Brimming with style and finesse."
Forget the price for a moment – this is a seriously accomplished wine, brimming with complexity, texture and finesse.
At £20 it would be excellent value. At £13.95, it is frankly ludicrous (when you buy 6 or more)..
Stuart McCloskey, tasted 1 September 2026 “There is a wonderful sense of salinity from the outset – almost sea-spray-like which runs through both the nose and palate. White peach, quince, fresh pineapple and citrus initially lead the aromatics, with a gentle floral lift and a touch of crushed stone. Give it more air and the wine begins to broaden beautifully, revealing gorgeous notes of warm apricot and sun-ripened stone fruit.
The palate is terrific. There is real weight and presence, but equally a lovely sense of energy. The mouthfeel, texture and sheer quality of the fruit completely dwarf the price. Ripe peach, quince, and warm apricot fill the mid-palate, but nothing feels heavy or overdone. Bright acidity provides shape and tension while that fabulous saline quality weaves its way through the fruit. With more time in the glass, the texture becomes increasingly impressive - generous, yet beautifully controlled.
Then comes the finish - super-long, mouthwatering and wonderfully persistent. The salinity remains, joined by a distinct twist of orange peel, bringing a gently bitter citrus quality which provides a fabulous counterpoint to the ripe stone fruit. It just keeps going… It is very easy to understand the 97-point accolade, particularly knowing the wine was sampled blind. Strip away the label, producer, region and price, and you are left simply judging what is in the glass and there is an extraordinary amount of wine here. Characterful, beautifully textured and quite astonishing value. Served using Zalto Universal stemware. Drink now to 2028.”
