2022 Vintage - Stuart McCloskey "Liquid gold in colour – so beautiful in the glass. I opted for Zalto’s Burgundy stemware as this design allows the aromatic profusion to resonate like the full orchestra it deserves and without oxidising. Put simply, the bouquet is divine. Breathtaking, in fact… Ripe apricot, orange blossom, raw honey, honeysuckle, spiced poached apples and pears, buttered pineapple, tangerine and lemon oil, spiced ginger syrup, along with a fresh backdrop of minerality. There’s a flamboyance to the wine's viscosity which I love. This is not overdone or unbalanced – this is sensational and will not fail to deliver to all those seeking the ultimate textural and flavour experience. Layer-upon-layer of spiced poached fruits unfurl. Honeyed quince, apple, lemon and tangerine carry the wine along with ginger spicing and grandma’s apple pie with a heavily buttered crust… The freshness is unmissable as is the core of minerality. Totally seductive… Just wonderful. Drink now to 2035. Serve alone and without food…"

2020 Vintage - Stuart McCloskey, tasted 13 May 2026 "The 2020 vintage offers a more expansive and immediately opulent interpretation than the 2019, delivering all the hallmark richness of Marsanne with an added sense of generosity and early accessibility.
The colour glows a deep straw gold, hinting at the wine’s concentration. The nose is broad and inviting, led by aromas of acacia honey, golden apple and poached quince, followed by notes of saffron, chamomile tea and freshly baked brioche. With time in the glass, nuances of toasted walnut, and warm croissant add further intrigue.

On the palate, this is unapologetically sumptuous. The texture is creamy and enveloping, coating every corner of the mouth with flavours of baked orchard fruits, orange blossom and honeycomb. A distinctive waxy richness (so characteristic of top-class Marsanne) builds through the mid-palate, while subtle notes of ginger spice and roasted nuts lend additional complexity. Despite its generosity, the wine retains admirable composure, finishing with a savoury, mineral edge.

Where the 2019 is beginning to reveal the tertiary complexity of age, the 2020 impresses through sheer breadth, richness and immediate charm. It is a more extrovert and luxurious expression, offering profound satisfaction today while promising further development over the next five to seven years. Absolutely superb… Lovers of Stolpman L'Avion will feel instantly at home here."

2019 Vintage - Stuart McCloskey, tasted 12 May 2026 "This is a magnificent expression of Marsanne and a textbook example of why the finest white wines from Crozes-Hermitage continue to offer some of the greatest value in the world of fine wine. 2019 was an exceptional Rhône vintage, producing whites of remarkable concentration, purity and balance. Warm growing conditions delivered generous fruit, while cool nights preserved the freshness and mineral tension that define the very best examples.

The bouquet is wonderfully expressive and deeply seductive. Aromas of ripe apricot, white peach and baked pear rise effortlessly from the glass, interwoven with honeysuckle, acacia blossom and lemon curd. As the wine unfurls, notes of toasted hazelnut, beeswax and crushed stone add both complexity and unmistakable Rhône character.

The palate is rich, layered and luxuriously textured. Waves of orchard fruit, quince and citrus oil glide across a broad, silky mouthfeel. Subtle nuances of nougat, almond cream and warm brioche emerge with aeration, while a vibrant mineral spine and beautifully judged acidity provide freshness, structure and precision. The finish is long, harmonious and gently saline, echoing with stone fruits, honeyed nuts and wet limestone.

At seven years of age, the 2019 is entering a glorious drinking window. The youthful fruit remains vibrant, yet the wine is beginning to reveal the honeyed, waxy and nutty complexities that make mature Marsanne so compelling. It will continue to evolve gracefully over the next five to eight years. Served using Zalto Burgundy glassware."
