Stuart McCloskey, tasted 24th November "Right off the bat, gorgeous – what a glorious bouquet that I find irresistible. This is my second ‘sampling’ as bottle one was enjoyed without making notes. I will say this is much better than last year’s 2013 library release… The perfume: Black tea, plum, star anise, mushroom broth, rose hip, sweet cherry, blood orange, smoked meat, blueberry, raspberry, pomegranate, candied violet, and damp, forest floor aromas which is a given. This keeps giving and giving. Impossible not to fall in love with…. The flavours and texture: Sublime and those who appreciate a maturing Pinot Noir will all doff their caps. This is archetypal ‘seamless’ – in perfect form. Sweet and sour plum, Asian spice, light soy along with a tang of blood orange. Tannins melt away. There’s an ethereal quality that only the best grapes and vintage provide. This is one… Burgundy is very expensive and often disappoints, which translates into customer reluctance (perfectly understandable). What I do struggle with (and I am going to get into trouble) are buyers who completely avoid Pinot Noir. This is a relative bargain and a vinous education. Surely, all wine lovers should want to experience such a wine? Set aside your prejudices and try a bottle. You will not be disappointed. Served at warehouse temperature (cool and recommended) – served using Zalto Burgundy stemware. You need something similar to achieve the same satisfaction… Drink now to 2028."
Cam Douglas Master Sommelier, April 2022. Rated Outstanding “Complex, integrated and complete. Aromas of plum and macerated cherry, some leather and baking spice highlights, there’s an aged bottle-developed scents that include dried berry and vanilla with an iodine note collectively urging me to taste and confirm. On the palate - complete, salivating fine and delicious, a wine that exceeds expectations and captures my attention from textures to fine almost dusty tannins to new red berry fruits and leathery-like older ones. Acidity sits at medium with chalky tannins in abundance. A lovely wine with some mystery and style, plenty of complexity and lengthy finish. Ready now with best drinking from purchase and through 2030”.
