95+ Points - Stuart McCloskey “A multi-regional blend from McLaren Vale, Coonawarra and a smattering from WA, which is the epitome of Thomas Hardy’s origins as his innovative regional blends can be tracked back to 1865. Set aside the prejudice which may exist towards the Hardys brand, and you will be pleasantly surprised. In fact, this will put one hell of a smile on your face as this is a real cracker for a snip over sixteen quid. Dried mint hits the olfactory senses with a ‘bang’ followed by cedar, cassis, blackcurrant leaf and a lovely dollop of liquorice. Granted, this is not an overly complex offering, but the flavours are fresh, bright and so pleasing. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins. The acidity is judged perfectly. In summary, there is nothing not to like or appreciate. Lovely job by team Hardys. Decant for 1-2 hours. Served using Zalto Bordeaux glassware.”
Hardys HRB Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
South Australia, Australia
Thomas Hardy is generally regarded as the fathers of the South Australian wine industry and was one of the early pioneers of McLaren Vale wine, planting some of the earliest vines in region dating back to the mid 1800s. Since those early plantings, the company has continued to grow through several generations of the family.
The widow of Tom Mayfield Hardy, Eileen Hardy, who took up the mantle for a considerable part of the 21st century is a name very familiar to us through their flagship range of wines name Eileen Hardy, featuring a Chardonnay, a Pinot Noir and Shiraz.
One of our favourite wines which simply blew us away is the Eileen Hardy Chardonnay 2015 which Steven Spurrier described as the "Grange of Australian white wines."
