2015 Eileen Hardy Shiraz

98 Points - James Halliday
"From two old vineyards in McLaren Vale with an average age of over 80yo, wild yeast open-fermented, plunged, basket-pressed. Deeply coloured, this plum, blackberry and dark chocolate wine has countless layers of tightly wound fruit, the gently savoury finish providing flavour and texture balance beyond compare. Oak? Yes, it's there somewhere."

Platinum Award Decanter "Floral, dark plum, chocolate and coconut nose, the palate has lashings of sweet dark blackberry fruit, lovely well-judged oak, very elegant structure and long satisfying finish of chocolate and spice."

2016 Eileen Hardy Shiraz

Stuart McCloskey Sampled 17 January 2025 “Everything sits on the dark side – the colour, the potent, black-fruited bouquet to a blackhole of a palate. This really needs serious airtime. I decanted for five-hours and suggest this as the bare minimum. You would struggle to believe this is coming into its ninth year. Time in the cellar? At least 20-years.  Brooding really doesn’t cut the mustard with this one as you are pulled into a potent mélange of blue and black fruits, exotic spice, a core of cold steel and graphite, nori, violet, dark roasted coffee bean, and white pepper. In many ways – this reminds me of Schubert Theorem from Standish. Exotic, brooding and that telltale elixir-like charm that I love so much.  The palate is full throttle, enormously powerful, with every facet being saturated by blue and black fruits, sweet spice, mineral and earth. The tannins are broad, and the acidity provides succulence. Wonderful texture too. It’s akin to taking a ride on a velvet rug – Plush and rides like a dream. Perfect integration and the length is never ending. Undoubtedly, this showcases exactly what Eileen Hardy stands for – the very best grapes and no expense spared. This is dripping with quality, which and regardless of preferences, you have to respect. Served using Zalto Bordeaux stemware.”

2017 Eileen Hardy Shiraz

Stuart McCloskey, August 2025 "Dark, brooding and requires a good decant (2-4-hours) to shake the wine free from its slumber… The bouquet is packed with dark fruits (plum, blackberry, damson and mulberry), warming spices, iron filings, salt, cinnamon stick, clove and white pepper. Dried salty herbs and warm earth carry for an age… Smoked meats (resting beef juices) begin to emerge after thirty-or-so minutes in my glass. The flavours follow a similar path (if not identical). The fruit, tannin, acidity, and the oak are woven together beautifully. It’s lithe, understated, classical, and unforced – you feel the sensitive hand during the winemaking. As expected from the Eileen range – The pedigree and layers of complexity are tangible. Silken and as long as a summer day. Very Rhône-esque. Drink now to 2035."
