Stuart McCloskey, tasted 7 October 2026 "Like the magnificent 2025 vintage in Margaret River, Tasmania enjoyed a quite remarkable year. It was both record-breaking and exceptionally high in quality, delivering pristine fruit alongside the state’s largest harvest on record. Having now re-sampled all the Ghost Rock 2025s, that quality translates beautifully into the bottle. The delicious 2024s were wonderfully bright, expressive and charming; the ’25s have taken a noticeable step forward, with greater concentration, depth and structure.

What continues to impress us enormously is the value. These remain relatively inexpensive wines, yet the quality of fruit and overall balance suggest they will develop beautifully in the bottle for many years. Equally, there is absolutely no requirement to wait. Across the range, the ’25s are already perfectly composed and, we believe, better wines than their 2024 counterparts (excluding the ’24 Climat). The 2025 Estate Pinot Noir is a perfect case in point.

The fruit feels darker, riper and more complete, but importantly, without losing any of the freshness and effortless charm that makes Ghost Rock (and Tasmanian Pinot Noir generally) so appealing. The nose opens beautifully with ripe wild strawberry, raspberry and dark cherry, followed by cranberry, sweet spice and a little dried rose. With air, the darker side begins to emerge - black cherry, spiced plum, a touch of forest floor, a squeeze of blood orange and something gently savoury and earthy beneath the fruit.

The palate is terrific. There is a lovely generosity through the middle, with layers of succulent red and darker berry fruit wrapped around fine, silky tannins. Everything flows beautifully - ripe cherry and raspberry giving way to darker plum, subtle spice and that delicious savoury Pinot character. The acidity is fresh and perfectly judged, providing lift and definition while carrying the fruit through a long, composed finish.

What impresses most is the completeness and sheer quality of the Estate Pinot. The 2024 was immediately delicious; the 2025 feels altogether more serious and accomplished. A beauty from the very first pour, but there is more than enough fruit, freshness, and fine tannin to suggest a very happy evolution over the next decade. Served using Zalto Burgundy glassware…"

Ghost Rock

We are so thrilled to welcome back Tassie producer, Ghost Rock.

We all loved their first introduction however, and being candid, their pricing for order #2 was daft. Whatever the reason, owner Justin, wanted to get his wines back on our shelves, and understood the ‘economical warning.’ As with our introductory offer (December 2020), the entire collection overdelivers on quality and value. In fact, and as time has passed, they are better. The entire collection is creative, delicious, filled with imagination and the single estate Pinots are all a serious proposition – they display nuance, balance, and a connection to Tasmania (Pinot Noir is sensitive to where it’s grown). Both fizzes sampled better than mid-level (priced) House of Arras…
