Cirillo Annika White Fortified Semillon 2009 (500ml) - In Bond

Stuart McCloskey, tasted 30 July 2026 “Drawn from Semillon vines planted in 1848 and patiently matured for well over a decade before release, the 2009 Annika White Fortified is a remarkable expression of history, craftsmanship and time.

The bouquet is captivating from the outset. Layers of candied citrus peel, preserved lemon, orange marmalade and quince unfold alongside delicate aromas of acacia honey, toasted almonds, nut brittle, and warm brioche. With air, more complex notes of beeswax, chamomile, saffron and polished oak emerge, adding remarkable depth without ever overwhelming the wine's remarkable freshness. Long after the wine had gone, the remnants in my glass released beautiful wafts of hot ginger powder.

Flavour and texture:  Rich, silky and wonderfully harmonious, it glides effortlessly across the palate with flavours of dried apricot, honeycomb and roasted nuts, balanced by vibrant acidity that keeps every sip focused and fresh. There is extraordinary intensity here, yet the wine never feels heavy. Instead, it dances across the palate with elegance…

The wine’s balance is most impressive. Sweetness, acidity and texture exist in perfect harmony, creating a finish that seems almost endless. This is a fortified wine of immense refinement. much closer in spirit to an old white Madeira or a beautifully aged white Port. I've often found that fortified wines can reveal a little spirit warmth on the finish. Here, there isn't the slightest hint of it. The fortification has melted effortlessly into the wine, leaving only silk, freshness, and remarkable composure. Really, very good… Another privilege to taste today.

Serving: Chilled is essential (not ice cold). I opted for Zalto’s Universal stem which is a great fit.”

This is the inaugural release of the 2009 Annika White Fortified Semillon is named after Marco’s wife, Annika.
