98 points - Decanter "Disgorged June 2019. 100% Chardonnay. Zero dosage. With notes of pear, menthol, gentle spices, and a hint of smoke, the bouquet impresses from the start thanks to its powerful aromatic complexity. With its dense, fleshy texture, this is a superbly flavourful Champagne propelled by very fine bubbles. Here again, there is a hint of reduction on the palate just after opening, but freshness soon comes to the fore, enhanced by a touch of mint on the finish. Power and length underpin this very great Champagne. Bravo!"

The styles of Leclerc Briant are energetic, vineyard specific and extremely stimulating. Although a historic House, Leclerc Briant are celebrating a new lease of life and are producing some of the most exciting styles of the region, using low dosage, low or no sulphur and some radical methods of vinification. 

Since 2012, Chef du Cave Hervé Justin, formally of Duval Leroy, has redefined the direction of the house. A world authority on biodynamic winemaking, an advocate for bioenergetics; the study of energy flow through living systems. 

A devoted respect for their vineyards and vines is paramount for the House, following biodynamic principles in viticulture and through everystep of vinification. Vineyards and plots are vinified separately, all gravity fed, natural fermentations and extending the time wines spendon lees prior to bottling is unusual in Champagne. Bottling always happens following the summer solstice, letting the wines relax and gain energy from untold rhythms of the universe. Fermentation and maturation takes place in mixed mediums; terracotta, wood, concrete and even gold. This is to allow the wines to reconnect with the cycle of nature, giving the wines energy before bottling. Hervé’s belief is that there is resonance between solar energy and the wine, and every step of vinification enables this flow of energy to take place. Biodynamic let alone bioenergetic are contentious to some, but the complexity, elegance and positive energy found in the wines of Leclerc Briant is totally undeniable.
